Our Story

Ocean Fern is an eco-conscious, handcrafted fine jewelry & art business. Originally started in 2017, under the name of Kat’s Krafts, I started my small business journey creating and selling original resin figurines, keychains, and charms from my dorm room, at Sierra College. At this time, I was slowly becoming more aware of the impact we are having on our environments. The way that I saw the world was changing and I started thinking more about the materials that I use in my art practice and in my personal life, and what I could do as one person to make some positive change. Although I loved making resin art, I realized how unfriendly of a material it was to the Earth and I knew I needed to make a change. 

In 2021, I changed what I was making and found more meaning behind what I was creating and decided to update my business name to Ocean Fern. Combining my love of ferns and the coast. As well as the love I have for all forms of life, from the oceans to the forests and everything in between. Nature has always been a huge part of my life and a lot of my inspiration comes from being outside and appreciating the simple, yet complex, beauty nature offers us and I hope my work can inspire you as well.

One of my main goals with Ocean Fern is to spread awareness towards the different issues we face surrounding our environments and ecosystems. From climate and pollution to water and wildlife, and learning to care for the world that is within our reach. I like to think that little actions made by many add up quickly. 

With Ocean Fern, I am raising money for donations to help in wildlife conservation and restoration. 10% of the proceeds from each sticker purchased will go to a specific charity that is working to make change and helping to improve our environment. In the future I plan on donating more, joining 1% for the planet, and finding other ways to make positive change. I’m always looking for other ways to make a difference!
